We love technology and are happy to invest in the best infrastructure. As operators of a platform that is business-critical for our customers, we are aware of our responsibility. To help you better understand our passion, you should switch into “nerd mode” yourself with the following content. At its core, Exxas is operated on layer 7 with high availability via three clusters; application, database and storage.
App Cluster.
This cluster contains numerous servers that provide users with interfaces via the web and smartphone apps. These servers also execute the user's commands. Depending on the load, more or fewer servers are activated. For example, significantly fewer servers run in the application cluster at night. These servers are equipped with the most powerful CPUs, DDR5 RAM and NVMe SSD, with which incredible speeds are achieved.
Database Cluster.
A separate database instance is automatically created for each of our customers. All the data that you enter and manage in Exxas is stored in this instance. Only files are stored on the separate storage cluster. Your instance is operated on a highly available database cluster. Every change to your data, no matter how small, is backed up transaction-based in the cluster and in two data centers. In addition, the instances are transferred daily to two further, independent data centers as backups.
Storage Cluster.
For Exxas' storage, we use a geo-redundant object storage system that stores all files and their mutations in duplicate. This is done in two Swiss data centers that are 223.87 km apart. In addition, daily backups of these files are transferred to a third data center. Each file is stored as an individual object, which is why ransomware attacks are practically impossible. Each customer has their own data depot on this object storage, so that mixing is not possible.
The extreme performance of Exxas is largely due to the backend and frontend technology. Nevertheless, we only use the best for operation. This allows us to squeeze out the last milliseconds in response time and create a highly available and secure platform.
Web Application Firewall.
Firewalls are particularly important for web-based applications such as Exxas. So-called web application firewalls (WAF) are used for protection against threats, load balancing and speed improvements. We work together with Cloudflare. Global network traffic to Exxas is routed through Cloudflare, so every request and access must pass through Cloudflare's security mechanisms. Cloudflare is the global leader in cloud security. Thanks to the Enterprise Agreement, Exxas has the highest priority level and a direct line to the Cloudflare team.
Backup and
Disaster.
Although all systems are operated redundantly and data is also stored redundantly, we continuously create backups. The entire platform is backed up daily in the two primary, geo-redundant data centers. These backups are then additionally transferred to two further, independent data centers located at other locations in Switzerland. One of these independent data centers is in hot standby mode so that the entire platform can be quickly restored if the two primary data centers fail. If “only” one of the primary data centers fails, it is not even necessary to switch operations to the hot standby data center. These security measures go far beyond common practice.
Mission
Control.
The data centers and their infrastructure, network traffic, application usage and security are monitored around the clock. When usage increases, additional computing capacity is automatically switched on, while capacity is reduced at night. We collect comprehensive telemetry data (logs) and evaluate them regularly. If errors, faults or threats occur, we have a well-functioning emergency organization. This emergency organization is continuously trained and reviewed every six months. In emergencies, we provide immediate information via our status page.
The locations of our data centers.
Zurich-North
The ZH01 data center in Zurich North (Dielsdorf) is our primary infrastructure cluster together with the GE01 data center in Geneva (Gland). The data center is operated by Green Datacenter AG. The ZH01 + GE01 cluster forms the high-availability zone in Switzerland. The app, database and storage clusters are operated geo-redundantly in Zurich North and Geneva.
Zurich-West
Our standalone location is in the Zurich-West data center, which is located in Lupfig (AG) and operated by Green Datacenter AG. This is operated independently of the other data centers in Switzerland. The platform in the CH02 data center is in hot standby mode. If the two data centers in the Swiss high availability zone (Zurich North and Geneva) were to have problems at the same time, the entire Exxas platform can be started up within a reasonable period of time in the CH02 data center in Lupfig.
Geneva
The third data center GE01 in Switzerland is located in Geneva (Gland), which together with the data center ZH01 forms the primary infrastructure. All services that are operated in Zurich North are also operated in Geneva. The backups are also stored in both data centers and additionally backed up to data center ZH02.

Together with our partners, we monitor operations and security around the clock. To this end, we have individual agreements (“Enterprise Agreements”) with all our partner companies with comprehensive service coverage and guarantees.
Supervision.
The operational responsibility for Exxas lies with us and we keep your data secure. We take this responsibility very seriously. All users are supervised when using Exxas and their activities are recorded. Exxas is a business-critical platform for our customers. Therefore, this supervision goes much further than with other cloud services. All data and communications between you and Exxas are secured using state-of-the-art encryption methods. We protect your data from unauthorized access as well as possible. We are always able to take new security precautions, isolate customer systems or block individual users. Numerous security systems monitor the use of Exxas, analyze data traffic and automatically intervene in the event of suspicious activity. In this way, we not only protect the entire platform, but above all your data and your ongoing operations.
Law and data protection.
What applies in Switzerland also applies on our platform. All Exxas employees and all other persons who may come into contact with your data are subject to Swiss banking, legal and patient confidentiality as well as special professional secrecy through their employment contracts. As the manufacturer and operator of Exxas, we categorize ourselves as a processor in accordance with the provisions of the Swiss Data Protection Act (DSG) and the European General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO/GDPR). The contracts between us and our customers contain the order processing conditions in accordance with the DPA and GDPR.
Preserve your independence.
It goes without saying that your data in Exxas belongs exclusively to you. Furthermore, we treat your data as private data that may not be used, changed, evaluated or viewed without your consent. We do not sell your data to others, nor do we use your data for our own purposes or for purposes unrelated to you. We do not want you to become dependent on us because of the data you store in Exxas. We provide you with tools with which you can download all your data at any time and save it in a readable format. You can also use these tools to perform regular, vendor-neutral backups of your infrastructure.
